How to Guide Your Teen to Choose the Right Major, Career, or College

I wanted to tell you about a resource I found that is helping my teen figure out her career BEFORE she goes to college, so she’ll know how God wired her to serve people around her with her skills and giftings without wasting lots of time and money figuring it out later.

THE CROSS-CULTURAL IDENTITY PROBLEM: I talk regularly with young adults preparing to move overseas. Many either don’t have a college education—or their college education hasn’t led to a viable career or profession that could help society practically. They don’t have a believable identity to serve those they are trying to reach in another country because they aren’t pursuing a career they love, are skilled at, or have experience in their own country.

A SOLUTION: Let’s help our teens figure out who God made them to be, how they could best contribute to society, what their CAREER might be BEFORE they choose their college major, their college, or their trade school.

MY SPECIFIC FAMILY PROBLEM: We’re on our fourth kid. The first one tried college three times, and after many tears and a lot of wasted money, decided college wasn’t for her. The second graduated from a grueling degree in Architecture, and now decided he doesn’t like designing buildings. The third should graduate soon with a degree in Business, with no idea what career he’s working towards.

MY SOLUTION: Again, we’re on our fourth kid. I thought, we’ve got to do better this round. How can we help her better explore careers BEFORE deciding on an education path?

⬇️

I think we found it…a fantastic Course that’s helping her explore over 8,000 videos of potential careers by people in those careers – after a personalized Birkman-certified assessment of her gifting, skills, and motivations.

My teen is even creating her own Linked In profile and organizing a job shadowing plan for exploring careers she never even knew about: Art Therapy and Herbal Chemistry—and other careers she didn’t believe were even possibilities: Acting, Sustainable Agriculture, and Veterinary School. (Yes, she's a multi-passionate, diverse person).

  • Just think how many college years, wasted credit hours, and finances she could save if she explored a right-fit career now, rather than later.

  • Just think how she could contribute to God’s Kingdom on earth in unique, specific ways she never would have known to pursue, rather than "just get a degree and figure it out later".

  • Just think if she ever decided to move to a spiritually strategic country, she would have a believable and enjoyable-to-her identity to serve, get visas, and stay longer because she’s doing what she loves, and is good at while she expands God’s Kingdom on earth and makes disciples who make disciples.

    (Just dreamin' out loud...)

So, I reached out to Lisa, also a fellow believer, world changer, guidance counselor and colleague, and asked if I could partner with her to offer her Course to you.

After helping thousands of teens as a school guidance counselor, Lisa created a free video called “How to guide your teen to choose the right major, college, & career” for parents (and students), and she’s given me permission to invite my people!

Click to watch now.

In this free one-hour on-demand video, she’ll cover:

❶ How flipping the script on the college admissions process can help ensure an on-time (and on budget!) graduation and a career your teen will love.

❷ How to know *beyond any doubt* that your teen has chosen the right college, major, and career path, and hasn’t based their decision on luck, picked the “safe” option, or inadvertently restricted their potential.

❸How to ensure your teen’s choices in their senior year don't trap them in an unsuitable major, or close the door on an opportunity no amount of money or persuasion can open.

❹ You’ll also get a huge discount and learn about how you and your teen or college student can enroll in Lisa's Launch Career Clarity Course—the same Course that my daughter and I are doing right now.

Lisa has been advising and supporting college-bound families, and faith-based private schools, for decades and I think this is a great resource for parents and students as they prepare for college and a life of meaningful service.

TIP: I watched this hour video first, and then I asked my 16-year old daughter to watch it, to see if she wanted to take the Course before I invested in enrolling.

She said YES, PLEASE!  She’s doing it all on her own, on her weekend hours and loves it.

Partnering with Lisa (and you) to train our young people to serve the world!
